What is an emergency pregnancy scan? 

Although pregnancy can be seen from as early as 6 weeks, women’s first scan won’t be until they are 12 weeks pregnant. 

At our clinic, we offer emergency pregnancy scans to women from 6 weeks into their pregnancy in order to get peace of mind. Our emergency ultrasounds involve a 2D scan in order to   

• Locate the pregnancy and confirm if it is single or multiple pregnancy 
• Check the baby’s heartbeat 
• Provide a scan report and digital download of all images 
• Assess your symptoms and concerns 
• Discuss ultrasound findings and next steps, which may involve a referral to your maternity care provider or a local hospital
• Please note a free complementary scan will be provided after the scan if required

Why do you need an emergency pregnancy scan?

You may be referred for an emergency pregnancy scan if you are experiencing bleeding and spotting in your early pregnancy. This is a common pregnancy symptom; however, it is highly recommended to have an early pregnancy scan in order to rule out any more serious circumstances. 

If you are experiencing pain during your pregnancy this doesn’t always mean that there is a problem. As baby is growing, it may cause the mother to feel discomfort in their ligaments due to them stretching. This makes back pain and general abdominal pain normal, however, if you are experiencing severe pain, it is crucial to contact a healthcare professional. 

Bleeding also doesn’t always indicate any serious issues with your pregnancy. Blood passage may be light or heavy and may range from bright to dark red and may be continuous throughout your pregnancy. It is highly recommended to contact a healthcare professional if you experience bleeding or spotting.

To book your appointment, please call our team on +44 7448 671 355 or 01268 209 540. As this is an out-of-hours service, appointments can only be made via the phone. Our phone line is available outside of hours, and we aim to answer every call immediately. If we are unable to reach you within 30 minutes, please book our first available appointment via our website. 

Upon confirmation of your booking with our team, you will receive an email with a payment link for the deposit. Deposit payment must be completed before your appointment. 

Please note, this emergency scan is not a substitute for your routine scans with the NHS. We encourage you to attend your appointments for Comprehensive Maternity Care.
